Dynamics of Business Models in Industry-Wide Collaborative Networks for Circularity

Incumbent B2B manufacturing companies join forces and form collaborative networks, called consortia, aiming to increase the circularity of their products. Our research interest lies in understanding how business models (BM) industry are affected by such collaborations networks circular economy (CE). Given exploratory nature our empirical research, we applied a mixed strategy an inductively deductive nature. We carried out case studies field combined them with quantitative content analyses companies’ financial non-financial reports. Drawing on assumptions Attention-Based View Theory Legitimacy Theory, defined found verbally communicated identifiers BM elements, CE strategies, quantified occurrences, transformed into variables. Using correlation analyses, determined tightness changes relationships between BMs’ elements strategies. examined dynamic structure BMs occurring within implementation selected findings suggest that for support adaptation industry’s BMs. The higher-level strategies impact more than lower-level ones. contribution is suggested method quantification concretization abstract concept interrelations. This enables assessment direct comparison BMs, as well implemented across industries. results also shed light way industries adapt towards reaching circularity, transition.
